Sandra B. Fennell

Passed away on September 20, 2023

Sandra B. Fennell

Sandra Bacon Fennell, 76, passed away with her husband by her side on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Spanish Oaks Retreat.  She was born May 11, 1947, in Savannah to the late William B. Bacon and Edna Mae Ackerman Bacon. 

First and foremost, she was a devout Christian.  She grew up at Southside Baptist Church. She married the love of her life, Robert H. Fennell, Jr. in 1969 at Southside Baptist Church.  She and Robert were members of Southside Baptist Church, then later joined a Lutheran church while living in Lilburn, GA in 1974. They have been long time active members of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Wilmington Island.

Mrs. Fennell was a 1965 graduate of Jenkins High School, and attended Armstrong State College, where she received her bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1969.  She worked in accounting for the City of Savannah for three years.  During her life, she was a member of book clubs, and attended many Bible studies.  Mrs. Fennell was an active member of Smart Senior and Generation One.  Mrs. Fennell and her husband enjoyed their timeshare ownerships on Hilton Head Island and in the Smokey Mountains. With timeshare exchanges, they loved to travel going to many states across the U.S., from Florida to West Virginia to Michigan to Texas. 

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Robert H. Fennell, Jr., two sons, Mark P. Fennell (Emily) of Monroe, N.C., and James L. Fennell (Joy) of Evans, GA.  Also surviving are four grandchildren, Lauren Moreland (Dalton), Linus R. Fennell, Jonah W. Fennell, and Janie Fennell, two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Tidrick, and Amelia Moreland.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Fox & Weeks, Islands Chapel.

Funeral Service will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 51 Wilmington Island Road, Savannah, GA 31410 with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer Endowment Fund, or the Gerken Education Fund.
